Tubular Crochet—through
STEP 7 You've put the hook IN the first chain, passed the green bead on that chain OVER the hook, and brought a bead DOWN the thread. Your thread is on the RIGHT side of the bead you passed over the hook. The thread is wrapped AROUND from back to front over the hook and positioned so it can be caught in the hook. Now pull the wrapped thread all the way THROUGH both loops; you must keep some tension on the thread as you pull. When the stitch is complete, take out most of the slack. This completes the sequence of steps. As you progress, a six-color spiral will emerge. The animation also shows the IN part of the next stitch with purple beads.
The above animation shows the THROUGH part of the stitch. Pull the wrapped thread through both loops. This completes the sequence; repeat the IN, OVER, DOWN, AROUND and THROUGH steps until you've crocheted a tube of the desired length. The end of the animation (before it repeats) shows the IN part of the next stitch.
The first few rounds of crochet will be tricky, but when you've got three or more rounds completed, the tube will take shape and it will be easier to handle. You'll find yourself using all of your fingers on both hands, and after a while, you'll develop a "hand rhythm" unique to yourself. Your hands may feel sore until this happens. Be patient with yourself: most new tubers experience a "Eureka!" moment after a little practice. Don't try a complex pattern immediately; stick to spirals until you feel comfortable with the technique.
